I’ve made a slight alteration in the direction for this website. One of my lifetime goals is to be a teacher. To do this, I must be a master of the material I wish to teach; namely computer science. I’m not talking about teaching people how to program, but how to think about things as a scientist. Some of the most recent articles here are about freeing oneself from the drudgeries of programming so that you can focus on learning the science. I hope these this site and these articles will be helpful to someone.
Design Perceptive is the public interface to my academic career. I am currently a full-time undergrad student at the University of Texas at Arlington studying Computer Science. I also work as a part-time research assistant for the IT Lab and as an intern for Hanson Robotics. My academic interests include artificial intelligence, machine learning, neuroscience, social robotics and mathematics. I am presently the president of a student organization at UTA called AAAI.UTA.

We live in a very exciting time! Technological advancements continue to move forward at an increasing rate. If you read any decent amount of Verner Vinge or Ray Kurzweil, you'll come to understand the Law of Accelerating Returns. The idea is that every innovation feeds the engine of change causing it to move at a rate that increases over time. These gentlemen assert that the speed at which change accelerates is not linear, but exponential. It is thought, then, that we live at the bend in the curve just waiting for that near vertical take-off. What will happen then? Will it be change for the positive? For it to be so, we have to set the precedents now. History has shown that technology will be used for maleficent purposes. We must learn from this and work towards infusing our research with ethics.
